One of the more rare and even more unusual pieces I have ever had in my possession. The harem pant was firstly introduced in the west by Paul Poiret in 1911, and was a major stepping stone in the introduction of women wearing pants of any kind. The niche trend of the harem pant didn’t last long, annd by the 1920s died off, but it holds much significance in women’s fashion history.
Edwardian era, circa 1910s-1920; custom-made 4 piece satin black & white harem pant jumpsuit ensemble made for NOLA Mardi Gras. Features a jumpsuit with harem pants and marabou trimmed bodice ( hook and eye closures up back with snaps around waist and hip-line,) with an inner mesh bodice. Open front vest with marabou feather trim, original two tone liquid satin belt, and matching beret style hat with pom pom. Once in a lifetime piece

Condition: Good for age, but with her flaws. Definitely wearable with care. I have hand washed everything but the pants portion of the jumpsuit ( because it is not colorfast,) but the pants portion have been steam cleaned. There are scattered marks and spots, mostly on pants, with some threadbare small areas, dislocation to the back of the vest, and some darker marks on sleeves and arms as shown. A few repairs on the bodice of the jumpsuit at underarm, which has been reinforced and darned over. Overall this piece is a true relic and quite a rare and special example of early examples of pants for women during this time.
