Rare 1920s/1930s One Of A Kind Handmade Hammered Metal Assuit Dress & Shawl
Remarkable 1920s-1930s era completely handmade Assuit dress, but a very unique design within the realm of Assuit, at least that I have ever seen. This looks to have maybe been an early project or beginner piece for a teen, the style of dress is similar to a juniors of the time, and the fabric is a super fine cotton gauze with hand piece hammered metal designs intricately applied throughout. The dress features a simple shape that slips on over head. In conjunction with the dress, it comes with a matching shawl; but the shawl is made out of another fabric, that being of stiffer cotton net tulle, again with hand applied hammered metal throughout. The shawl has a light gathering done around the neckline with two ties that fasten around neck. ( Can also be worn as an over skirt or tied off the the side around shoulders as modeled, so many ways to be worn.)
Condition: This is an good-ok condition for age. There area few small holes in the dress as shown. as well as a few darned holes, and hand stitched seams around neckline, underarms as shown. It can be worn, with care like all 100 year old pieces. Truly special piece, and a lovely example of handmade Assuit clothing of the era
