RARE 1910s Khaki Jean Womens Riding Habit Divideded Skirt Overall / Sportswear Jumpsuit
Manifested this ultra rare and obscenely special garment at the very tail end of the year. If you have been around for the past few years this piece will look quite similar to one I had in 2022. This is piece dates to around 1915-1917 from what research I could dig up; and is a true and rare example of women's fashion history, but more importantly early women's bifurcated sportswear. This is given the name 'riding habit' and would have been worn for horseback riding or even bicycling, but it also could very well have been used for land chores and hiking. In the 1890s bifurcated skirts for women were introduced, but unless it was for sportswear attire, the divided skirt was still very much a novelty, even in the 1910s.
This garment in particular is a rare and unique example and blend of early women's bifurcated clothing and an all in one overall suit. This is an all in one riding habit suit with a bifurcated skirt, which besides the one I found a few years ago I have only ever seen a few others. This piece is made of a khaki cloth and features decorative buttons down the entire length of the bodice and divided skirt with hidden hook and eye closures underneath. The sleeve hems have the same decorative buttons at the cuff with hidden hook and eyes under each one that can be undone to give a bit more five in the arm. The skirt gives the effect when worn that it is a dress, but ultimately is a wide legged jumpsuit. A very rare and unique find
